Split Cedar Studios is the home and collaborative studios of partners Doug Calisch and Laura Conners; an enterprise at the intersection of creative production, healthy living, family, and marriage. The focus at SCS is to create thoughtfully designed and meticulously crafted objects: both artwork and functional pieces. Doug is a sculptor and a furniture designer/maker. Laura is an artist and Yoga instructor. For 35 years, the couple has collaborated and produced works of art for: theatrical productions, public and private art collections, commissioned furniture, furnishings, and yoga props. They live and work together on ten wooded acres of Indiana’s Sugar Creek watershed. When not in the studios, you will find them gardening, beekeeping, or practicing yoga.
DOUG
Artist Doug Calisch, retired after 36 years of teaching Sculpture, Ceramics, Design, and Photography at Wabash College. As a professional artist, Doug exhibits his work throughout the country and continues to create both public commissions and art for exhibition and private patrons. As a furniture designer/maker, he works collaboratively with clients to produce customized one-of-a-kind functional pieces.
LAURA
Laura is an artist with a BFA in painting and worked as the costume designer at Wabash College for 25 years. Her work includes quilt making, clothing construction, yoga prop fabrication, and sculpture. She is a qualified yoga instructor (500-CYT) and has been teaching Gentle Yoga, Yin and Restorative Yoga since 2007.
